Why do we say “I’ll try and do that” vs “I’ll try to do that”? Why replace the infinitive with a conjunctive?

Type Diversity

I’m fascinated by personality typing…okay, it is one of my fascinations. Hey, I’m INTP–I have more interests than Carter has pills.
