My local NOW sent a newsletter covering a recent Supreme Court decision that will affect anyone in the States who has a complaint about pay.
Although the plaintiff in the case had won and been awarded monetary damages, the Supreme Court overthrew the lower courts’ decisions because the plaintiff had not filed a complaint within 180 days of noticing the discrepancy. Given the difficulties of finding out co-workers’ pay, this is insane.
Counter-legislation will be introduced, but I don’t have high hopes, considering the conservative direction this country has taken. That Ms. Clinton is amongst those supporting the bill will not help, I think. She’s too much of a lightning rod for blind conservative attacks.
I’m considering returning to the tech field. I realize the battle for salary will begin again–an argument over equal pay for equal work, gender wars, benefits of privilege, etc. I can’t believe we’re still fighting this archaic battle over something so simple and obvious.
