Saturday we were amongst the first audience at the new Harvey B Gantt building, the new home for the Afro-American Cultural Center. It’s a beautiful building, incorporating an art gallery and community facilities. The building isn’t quite done yet — some interior work yet remains — but no matter.

We were there to attend a “Get to know Saffire The Uppity Blues Women” who are stopping as part of their final tour as a group. Mother Blues and Michael Porter lead the edutainment session where we collectively created and performed blues songs. Really enjoyable!

Afterwards, we went to Fuel for pizza, which is always great. When we left, we watched bemusedly as two fellows dressed as Ghostbusters trotted past, looking for something. Turns out there was a Great Urban Race occurring, sort of a fun-run/scavenger-hunt for charity.
